Axis and Allies took the concept of Risk to a new level. It's still a mainstream wargame, but with additional levels of complexity.

One of Milton Bradley's Gamemaster series of games, the original Axis and Allies includes every arena from World War II. In 2000, Avalon Hill published Axis and Allies: Europe; in 2001, that was followed by Axis and Allies: Pacific; in 2004, Axis and Allies: D-Day was published, along with a revised version of the original game.
